The incident occurred in February. The woman had sought care at the emergency department at Ystad Hospital with a fever and respiratory symptoms. She had been in contact with a relative who had a serious bacterial infection in the days before.
The relative was treated at Skåne University Hospital, but information about the relative's infection never reached the staff in Ystad. The woman was allowed to go home but deteriorated rapidly and was brought in the next day by ambulance. Her life could not be saved.
The hospital has reported the incident according to Lex Maria, because an earlier suspicion of a serious infection could have led to faster treatment.
