"The King's general condition is good, and he is responding well to treatment. The infection stems from a skin infection in one of his legs. The King will remain in the hospital for a few more days for observation and further treatment," the doctor said in a press release from the court.
A press corps gathered on Tuesday outside the University Hospital Hospiten Sur in Tenerife, where Harald is being treated.
The King, who turned 89 on Saturday, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday while on holiday with Queen Sonja, 88.
Bjørn Bendz arrived at the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation.
"When people who are nearly 90 are admitted with an infection, it is serious. It is important that we get a good overview and control of the King's health before he is discharged - even if his condition is stable now," he said.
The Queen also visited the King in the hospital during the day.
A new health update is expected on Thursday.
The royal couple have both had health problems in recent years.
For example, Harald suffered an infection during a holiday in Malaysia in February 2024 and subsequently had a pacemaker implanted. The Queen received a pacemaker in January last year after suffering heart fibrillation during a skiing trip.
