Crown Prince Haakon and Queen Sonja are cancelling all their engagements, according to the court. They are at the National Hospital in Oslo, where the king is being treated, NTB writes. Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Prince Sverre Magnus and Princess Astrid are also reported to be in the hospital.
King Harald was treated with cortisone for haemolytic anaemia, a form of anaemia, in August, which resulted in fluid accumulation in the body that required hospitalization. He was admitted to Rikshospitalet on August 17. Over the weekend, it was announced that the king's condition had worsened and that he was given antibiotics for a bacterial infection in the blood.
In the past 24 hours, large parts of the royal family have visited the hospital.
Harald V, whose motto is "Everything for Norway", has been King of Norway since 1991. His health began to falter in 2024, when the king fell ill during a trip to Malaysia and had a pacemaker implanted.
The last few years have been turbulent, with Crown Princess Mette-Marit's lung transplant and contacts with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in the spotlight, along with the rape trial of her son Marius Borg Høiby.
