With "a hop, a skip and a cheeky grin at the terrified goalkeeper" Chloe Kelly shot the European Championship gold to England, writes Daily Mail's columnist Jane Fryer.

Kelly was close to hanging up her football boots six months ago but got a new spark after switching Manchester City for Arsenal.

"This time it was the ladies who played. Our roaring lionesses, a rare breed in England because they actually win things", continues Fryer.

"Bring home the World Championship"

Even the British royal family praises the women's national team after the European Championship triumph. Present in Switzerland were both Prince William and daughter Charlotte, from home the island King Charles sent a greeting to the gold team:

"My warmest congratulations to the win in the European Championship", he writes in a post on social media.

"Well done, lionesses. Next task is to bring home the World Championship 2027 if you can!"

"Proper England"

In the newspaper The Guardian, columnist Tom Garry praises the winning team and means that they are "proper England". But what does that mean, he reflects on:

"Maybe they all love Yorkshire puddings, chips with curry sauce. Or are really good at queuing. Maybe they all had a character-forming evening together when they were forced to wait for a delayed train from Euston", he writes and continues:

"What is meant by the phrase can be summed up in their unwavering never-give-up attitude, their refusal to back down, their effort".
