28-year-old nightclub hostess Ruth Ellis was the last woman to be executed in Britain. She was sentenced to death for shooting her partner David Blakely dead.
But now the sentence has been posthumously commuted to life imprisonment at the request of the British government and because she was subjected to domestic violence, writes The Guardian .
Ellis' family, who are behind the clemency application, say that her actions were linked to the trauma and violence she was subjected to and that the circumstances were never considered in court.
Ruth Ellis suffered, among other things, a miscarriage as a result of the abuse by her partner Blakely.
