There was no award for Jonas Hassen Khemiri, who was nominated for one of the United States' most prestigious literary awards, the National Book Award.

Khemiri was one of ten nominees in the fiction category for her novel "The Sisters", which was also nominated for the August Prize 2023.

The book, which is about three sisters who arouse curiosity when they move into the million-dollar housing project area on Södermalm in the early 2000s, has been praised by American reviewers.

Khemiri has said that he originally wrote the book in English, which is why it did not compete in the translated literature category.

The prize now went instead to Rabih Alameddine for his novel "The true true story of Raja the Gullible (and his mother)".
