Khamenei: US-Iran Nuclear Talks Deemed Futile

Talks with the USA about Iran's nuclear energy program are meaningless and will not lead to anything good. This is stated by the country's supreme leader Ali Khamenei in a speech to the nation.

All conversations with the USA are a dead end, said Khamenei in his televised speech.

The USA has already announced the results of the conversations in advance. The result is to shut down the entire nuclear energy program and all enrichment of uranium. It is not a negotiation, it is a dictate, an order, he said.

Negotiations with America are not only useless, they also cause great harm to the current situation.

Khamenei's words come at the same time as Iran's president Masoud Pezeshkian is in New York to find new paths for negotiation. Additionally, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has meetings with France, the United Kingdom, and Germany about the sanctions that will be reintroduced on Sunday if nothing happens in the negotiations.

Khamenei claimed in his speech that Iran does not intend to manufacture nuclear weapons, but only wants nuclear power.

Of the ten countries in the world that today have the capacity to enrich uranium, nine have nuclear weapons. Iran does not have nuclear weapons and does not want them, he said.

Over the weekend, Iran announced that it will discontinue its cooperation with the UN's atomic energy organization IAEA after the UN Security Council voted to reintroduce sanctions against the country.
