Warsh was nominated for the position by President Donald Trump at the beginning of the year.

However, his confirmation was initially blocked by Republican Senator Thom Tillis, who said that the Trump administration's investigation into the current Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, whose term expires on May 15, threatened the central bank's independence.

When the Department of Justice announced at the end of April that the investigation was closed, Tillis chose to lift his hold.

In Wednesday's vote, senators largely stuck to party lines, and Warsh was confirmed 54–45.
