Striker Sam Kerr is back in action, scoring twice as Chelsea thrashed St. Pölten 6-0 away – the 32-year-old's first goals in Champions League football in almost two years.

At the beginning of 2024, it was announced that Australian Sam Kerr had suffered a cruciate ligament injury and it was not until 20 months later that she was back in the game.

Now Kerr has scored his first goals in the Champions League since December 2023.

“Feels strange”

In the 75th minute, the 32-year-old scored the first goal that made it 4–0 for Chelsea away to St. Pölten. In the second minute of added time, the striker then made it 6–0.

"I feel 100 percent good, but I was out for a long time and I need to build myself up more," Kerr told Disney+ after the game.

It was the striker's first start for Chelsea this season. In the English league, she has scored two goals this autumn, but it feels different when she scores now compared to before the injury.

"It feels a little more special, but it also feels strange. I haven't really celebrated my goals. I'm just happy to score again," she says.

Catarina Macario also scored twice for the London team, who have seven points after three matches in the Champions League. Swede Johanna Rytting Kaneryd was substituted goalless after 59 minutes. Nathalie Björn sat on the bench for the entire match.

Lyon top the Champions League table on a maximum of nine points. Norwegian Ada Hegerberg scored two goals in a 3-1 victory for the French team at home against Wolfsburg.

Saved points late

Real Madrid, with national team midfielder Filippa Angeldahl, salvaged a point late (1–1) at home against Paris FC. Caroline Weir's equalizer came in the eighth minute of added time.

Norwegian side Vålerenga claimed their first Champions League win in their history away to Italian side Roma. Midfielder Stine Brekken scored the only goal of the match when she crossed the ball from distance.
