Lars Kepler's "The Sleepwalker" was the most listened to audiobook of the year, according to new statistics from Storytel. The YouTube comedy group IJustwantToBeCool's "Summer Jobs" was the most listened to children's book, and the most listened to narrator was Jonas Malmsjö, followed by Gunilla Leining and Katarina Ewerlöf.
The streaming service also notes that historical depictions have been popular during the year, and that Ruth Kvarnström-Jones' "The Phenomenal Women at Grand Hôtel" is the most listened to historical novel of 2024.
In all of the year's top ten most popular historical novels, the main character is a woman. Eight of the titles are narrated by Katarina Ewerlöf. Most of the books revolve around contemporary women's issues of the time, such as entering the labor market, class differences, suffrage, and expectations of motherhood.
