Kenyan cult leader Paul Mackenzie sentenced to 200 years for murdering 190 children

The leader of a Kenyan cult who encouraged hundreds of people to starve themselves to death has been sentenced to 200 years in prison.

Cult leader Paul Mackenzie was convicted of murdering 190 children in October and sentenced to 200 years in prison on Friday.

The cult was discovered after mass graves were unearthed in Shakahola Forest, near the coastal town of Malindi in eastern Kenya.

More than 400 people, including 190 children, were found dead in the graves. Many of the bodies had decomposed to the point that they could no longer be identified.

Paul Mackenzie had urged his followers to starve themselves and their children to “meet Jesus.”
