Paul Mackenzie was convicted of the murders on Monday, along with about 30 other senior cult members. He also faces a number of other charges, including terrorism.
Mackenzie encouraged cult members to starve their children to death so they could “meet Jesus.” According to prosecutors, most of the children died of starvation, while others died of suffocation or blows to the head, among other causes.
Kenyan authorities discovered hundreds of bodies buried in a forest outside the coastal town of Malindi in 2023. Since then, more than 400 bodies have been found in the forest.
