To help the overburdened Haitian police, the UN Security Council in 2023 approved sending a multinational security force to the country led by Kenya.
Around 2,500 police officers were expected to participate in the operation, but only around 1,000 have been sent to Haiti so far. Now the Kenyan government announces that an additional 230 police officers have arrived in the country to relieve around 100 of their colleagues.
Haiti is hard hit by violent crime and large parts of the country and the capital Port-au-Prince are controlled by armed gangs.
