Former Labour leader Starmer tells the local London newspaper Camden New Journal that he wants to hand over the baton and devote his time to other things.
"I will now focus on other things and those will be foreign affairs such as defense, security, trade and technology in a rapidly changing world," he says.
Keir Starmer was elected to the House of Commons for his London constituency just over 11 years ago. He took over as Labour Party leader in April 2020 and became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in July 2024. In mid-July of this year, he resigned from both posts, handing over to Manchester politician Andy Burnham.
