Children need to get their childhood back. We need to move from a smartphone-based childhood to a play-based childhood, says Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD).

The party has produced a report on promoting young people's mental health that includes the proposal.

Today, eight- and nine-year-olds are given smartphones, and that's not really how it should be, he says, pointing to research that suggests 13-14 years might be a suitable age limit.

But the issue must be investigated by the Public Health Agency, according to Forssmed, who is also deputy party chairman.

The government is already investigating introducing an age limit for social media, with proposals to be presented this summer.
