The Christian Democrats want to expand the tax deduction to also include the construction of new single-family homes.

It would promote a homeownership movement throughout the country, says Housing Minister Andreas Carlson (KD).

Seven out of ten want to live in single-family homes.

The root deduction currently does not cover new construction or changes in the first five years of a new construction. KD's proposal means that private individuals can take the deduction both for building a new villa or a smaller complementary building on the plot. For example, a so-called Attefallshus or a garage, according to Carlson.

He points out that if the proposal were to lead to 6,000 new single-family homes being built per year with a tax deduction, it would cost the treasury around 600 million kronor.
