The mining company Kaunis Iron is granted permission by the Land and Environmental Court of Appeal to expand its mining operations in Pajala. The permits apply to existing and expanded operations at Tapuli, Palotieva, and Sahavaara.
"The Land and Environmental Court of Appeal agrees with the Land and Environmental Court's assessment that there are prerequisites to grant Kaunis Iron AB permission for the applied-for mining operations", says Court of Appeal Judge Lars Borg, the court's chairman in a press release.
As early as the end of 2022, the company was granted permission for mines in Sahavaara and Palotieva, but the decision was appealed.
