How?
Perry is going with Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos' space project Blue Origin. It is the eleventh space trip in order for Blue Origin with the rocket "New Shepard". So far, 52 people have made space trips with Blue Origin, but it's the first time the passengers are exclusively women.
Why?
Katy Perry has said in interviews that she has dreamed of going to space for over 20 years. On Blue Origin's website, she says that she hopes her space trip will inspire her four-year-old daughter, and other young people, to "aim for the stars, both figuratively and literally".
In an interview with Elle, Perry has also made it clear that she intends to be properly made up for the space trip.
Space is finally going to get a little "glamorous". If I could bring makeup to space, I would, she says to the magazine.
When?
The spacecraft is planned to take off from Texas on Monday at 15:30 Swedish time, depending on the weather conditions. After launch, they will travel towards space until the spacecraft reaches the so-called Karman line – the boundary between the Earth's atmosphere and outer space. Once up at the Karman line, the passengers will experience a moment of weightlessness and get to look down at the Earth a bit before it's time to return. But it will be a short trip – after just 11 minutes, it's over.
Who?
Katy Perry will be accompanied by TV personality and CBS journalist Gayle King, who is also Oprah Winfrey's best friend. Also on the trip are NASA-employed rocket researcher Aisha Bowe, Bezos' fiancée and former journalist Lauren Sánchez, researcher Amanda Nguyễn, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
Cost?
When Bezos sold the first ticket to his space trips four years ago, it went for around 278 million kronor. It's therefore hard to get a spot on the rocket unless you're extremely, extremely rich or have an extremely, extremely well-known name.
