It was during the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California, USA, that the American first broke the world record set in June by another American, Gretchen Walsh, with a time of 23.49 seconds. Walsh's time was 23.55.
But later in the day, Douglass managed to swim even faster, clocking 23.19 seconds, securing the gold as well.
Douglass also held the world record before Walsh.
