In the NHL, statistics are sacred. Every achievement is noted, cataloged, and put into a larger context.
When Pittsburgh's Swedish defenseman Erik Karlsson scored 2-0 in the second period, it was his 200th in his NHL career – and industry media quickly established that he is the 23rd defenseman in NHL history to reach that milestone.
Karlsson himself doesn't see it as a major achievement.
Of course, it's fun. But I don't know if it's actually a milestone, he says and adds:
But I'll take it. I've been active for a long time and scored some goals over the years. Hopefully, I have another 100 in me.
Pittsburgh's goalie Tristan Jarry made 26 saves and kept a clean sheet throughout the match. Pittsburgh won 5-0.
