Valieva won the 2022 European Championships and took Olympic gold with Russia in Beijing 2022 - but was later disqualified for doping and suspended for four years.

Now Valieva, 20, had applied to compete under neutral status - meaning the athlete must not have supported Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Valieva has posted a video on her Instagram account from 2023 in which she stands side by side with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier in the summer, there were reports that Valieva would get the green light - but on Thursday, the International Figure Skating Union (ISU) announced that Valieva, along with Mark Kondratiuk, Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin, had been disqualified because they "do not meet the requirements to compete as neutral athletes."
