44-year-old Kalle Karlsson brought VSK back to the top league this year and after the season there have been rumors of Hammarby's interest in him as a replacement for Kim Hellberg.
Now it's clear.
"It is a great honor to join Hammarby. It is a club that has a lot in place both on and off the pitch and it is incredibly inspiring to be trusted to lead this journey forward," says Kalle Karlsson to the club's website.
Hammarby's sports director Mikael Hjelmberg:
"We are extremely proud and happy that Kalle has chosen to come to Hammarby. Kalle has the profile we were looking for and he will fit in perfectly with the business and our way of working. We have been very careful in the recruitment process and it feels fantastic to have arrived at the finish line with the coach we have followed the longest and feel extremely safe with."
Karlsson worked for a long time as a sports journalist and in recent years has had a bit of a meteoric career as a football coach. This year he was named coach of the year in the Swedish Super League after taking Västerås SK to the Allsvenskan for the second time.
Kim Hellberg recently left Hammarby for Middlesbrough, after leading "Bajen" to two consecutive second places in the Swedish league.
