In the round of 16 of the World Championship in Chongqing, China, Olympic Games hero Truls Möregårdh faced German Dang Qiu.
Despite the players being evenly ranked, it was never exciting.
I'm absolutely shocked that it went as quickly as it did. I was nervous the whole time, even when I led by a lot. It felt like it was going a bit too smoothly, says Truls Möregårdh to P4 Radiosporten.
Möregårdh started with a total demolition in the first set, 11–2. The 23-year-old also served up a lovely spin shot.
The second set became more even, but the Swede could eventually pull away and win 11–7. The third and final set ended 11–5 and Möregårdh took the victory in three straight sets.
In the quarterfinals, Möregårdh now awaits an Olympic Games rematch. He will face world number two Wang Chuqin, whom Möregårdh sensationally knocked out in the Olympic Games, and who earlier on Friday won against Frenchman Alexis Lebrun.
It's probably the same keys now. Those that are hard to find but that you want to find against him to have any chance. And that's to come up with your aggressive shots yourself. But he has home advantage and 10,000 people screaming for him. It's going to be tough in many ways, says Möregårdh.
Anton Källberg, on the other hand, is out after losing to world number four Tomokazu Harimoto. The Swede had previously won five times out of nine attempts against Harimoto, but this time it was too tough.
The Japanese player won in three straight sets (11–8, 11–8, 11–6).
