Russian Vladimir Sidorenko defeated world number two Truls Möregårdh in the semifinals of the Grand Smash event in Las Vegas, USA, this summer, and is ranked 16th in the world.
But against Anton Källberg he had no chance. The Swede, ranked 36th in the world, impressed in the first round and won by set scores of 11–5, 11–9, 11–7.
Källberg now faces Chinese Zhou Qihao in the round of 16.
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) announced in mid-July that all restrictions against Russia were being lifted and that the country's players would once again be allowed to participate in international competitions under their own flag and national anthem.
