When "Änglagård" is exported to Finland, Jakob Norrgård from KAJ will play one of the roles. A lot of people can identify with that story, especially in Ostrobothnia where I come from, he says.

As soon as he heard about the production at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki, he decided to audition and received an answer almost immediately. When he traveled to the Melodifestivalen in Malmö to compete with “Bara bada bastu” (Just Bathe in the Sauna), he had already received the answer.

In the elevator he met Edward af Sillén, screenwriter for both Melodifestivalen and "Änglagård".

He was the first person I told this to!

“Guy from the country”

In "Änglagård" he plays Mårten, the son of Axel and Rut, who in the film is played by the young Jacob Eklund.

He's a guy from the country who wants to move to the big city. Everyone thinks it's Stockholm, but I think it's "a little bigger, smaller place." He's a big fan of Lasse Stefanz and wants to write dance band music.

Jakob Norrgård has both written and acted in KAJ's own comedy musicals, "Gambämark" and "Botnia Paradise" at Wasa Theatre. "Gambämark" is set in a fictional village in Ostrobothnia where the inhabitants build a wall and declare the village independent from the rest of Finland. Jakob Norrgård thinks the theme is a bit reminiscent of "Änglagård".

It's a syjunta or hunting team and everyone has to wear traditional costume. There I played a character who grows up in Gambämark but dreams of a life outside the walls.

Played mascot

In the cruise musical "Botnia Paradise" he played the role of Benjamin who dreams of participating in the Melodifestivalen but has to start by playing Svante the Swan, the ship's mascot.

Now Jakob Norrgård is looking forward to his first musical role at the Swedish Theatre, where "Änglagård" will premiere on September 17.

It's nice to "just" be on stage this time, and fun to do such a big musical on the Swedish-Finnish national stage.

Premiere September 17 at the Swedish Theatre.

Cast: Sannah Nedergård (Fanny), Mikko Kauppila (Zac), Birthe Wingren (Rut), Tero Harjunniemi (Axel), Riko Eklundh (Gottfrid) and Nicke Lignell (Ivar).

Directed by: Maria Lundström.
