Hävelid pointed out when he presented the squad that Sweden has twelve silver medals and is often far ahead.
For example, he led Sweden in the home tournament in Gothenburg almost two years ago when they lost in the final to the USA.
We need to learn to grow and get better and better with each match and we should be able to threaten them, he says, referring to the USA and Canada, who he sees as advance favorites.
New layout
The USA has two straight JVM gold medals and in the last six years either the USA or Canada has won.
Now Sweden is making a new arrangement of playing three friendly matches instead of two before – two of them are against Canada and the rematch against Switzerland – precisely in order to be able to take steps match by match.
Ivar Stenberg is the big star after his hot autumn in Frölunda, but there are also stars like Djurgård duo Anton Frondell and Victor Eklund and Timrå's Eddie Genborg.
Stenberg, 18, is Frölunda's top scorer with 23 points (6 goals + 17 assists) and could become historic in Saturday's SHL round.
Can break records
When Stenberg scored against Djurgården on Thursday night, he tied former star Tomas Sandström's 18-year record of points in nine straight games.
A fantastic autumn, it feels like he is continuing from last season. He has the humility and is prepared to work very hard. Having Ivar in top form is a great asset for us as a team, says Hävelid.
At the back are Herman Liv, the Örebro goalkeeper who is on loan to Almtuna, and Love Härenstam, Södertälje, who have strong seasons in their Allsvenskan club teams.
Herman and Love have made a very good impression in the Allsvenskan. Going from junior to senior hockey is not easy, they have had to play a lot of games and have done very well. They have had a nice autumn, says Hävelid.
Malmö defender Felix Carell, Malmö and Linköping forward Loke Krantz became the squad's two standouts. Carell, 19, makes his national team debut while Krantz makes his U20 debut.
The Junior World Championships will be played in Minnesota and start on December 26.
