Jury negotiations in the extensive and highly publicized case against Weinstein have been filled with drama, despite being conducted behind hermetically closed courtroom doors. This is reported by American media, which notes that the jury has on occasion requested to review the testimonies given in the trial again.
The guilty verdict concerned a sexual assault in 2006. It is uncertain what the sentence will be for the guilty verdict.
Continued jury negotiations
A divided jury means that at least parts of the trial may be declared invalid - but the judge in the case has the right to demand that the jury must continue to try to agree on the charge concerning a charge of rape in 2013.
The 73-year-old Weinstein's lawyers appealed a verdict from 2020, in which he was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault. The trial was declared invalid due to mainly procedural issues and has therefore been conducted again.
In 2022, Weinstein was also sentenced to 16 years in prison in Los Angeles for assault and rape of a woman.
Extensive changes
Weinstein denies all allegations. Lawyers have also referred to Weinstein's failing health and that he is not receiving the care he needs in prison on several occasions.
The revelations and subsequent verdicts came to trigger the extensive criticism of industries where mainly sexual assaults have taken hold as a means of power - which led to the MeToo movement and increased demands for fundamental changes.
