The film, the seventh in the "Jurassic Park" series created by Steven Spielberg, had its cinema premiere on July 2. Since then, it has grossed over 147 million dollars in the USA and an additional 171 million dollars in the rest of the world – equivalent to over three billion kronor.
The film cost 180 million dollars to produce.
This year, only "A Minecraft Movie" has grossed more money during the opening weekend. An unexpected success, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The USA's National Day on July 4 – historically a significant day for new cinema films – fell this year on a Friday, which was expected to lead to many traveling over the long weekend rather than going to the cinema.
Analysts had expected global revenues of a total of 260 million dollars.
