A Utah district judge on Tuesday sided with prosecutors, who have argued that they have "overwhelming" evidence that murder suspect Tyler Robinson shot Charlie Kirk during an audience debate at a Utah university last year.

Preparatory hearings have been held over the summer, and Robinson's lawyers have tried to prevent a trial, or at least eliminate a possible death penalty, arguing that prosecutors have not proven that the shooting at Kirk endangered the lives of people in the area.

It is now clear that the case will go to trial and that Robinson risks the death penalty.

23-year-old Tyler Robinson has consistently denied wrongdoing.
