It was in February 2026 that President Donald Trump announced that the building he named would be completely renovated and closed for two years. Federal judge Christopher Cooper now says that the cultural center board's approval of the closure was "poorly substantiated and seemingly predetermined."
Cooper also notes that it violates the law to add Trump's name to the building.
Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it.
Several artists have chosen to skip events at the Kennedy Center since Donald Trump renamed the cultural center after himself earlier this year.
