The leading Asian stock exchanges mostly traded up in the initial Monday trading.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was just before lunch break up a whole 2.4 percent.

Even in Tokyo, the market mood was at the top. The Nikkei 225 index pointed to a 0.9 percent gain, the broader Topix index was up 0.8 percent.

In Shanghai, however, it was not as positive, the composite index traded down 0.4 percent.
