The demonstration was to show support for two Kurdish journalists who were killed in a Turkish drone attack in northern Syria.

According to reports, 59 people were detained for participating in the demonstration, and 50 of them have since been released, according to the Turkish human rights organization MLSA, which works with press and freedom of expression.

MLSA states on X that the seven journalists have been arrested for "terrorist propaganda".

According to journalist groups, the two Kurdish journalists from southeastern Turkey were in northern Syria to cover clashes between Turkish-backed militia and Kurdish forces when they were killed earlier in the week.
