The decision from the country's interior department comes after the authorities earlier in April arrested 16 people suspected of threatening national security. They are accused of having manufactured rockets, possessed explosives and automatic weapons, and illegally recruited and trained followers.
All political activities linked to the organization are also prohibited. The organization's political branch, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), became the country's largest party in last year's parliamentary election.
After the announcement, the party's headquarters were surrounded by police who searched the premises. The interior department also states that the organization's assets will be seized.
The country's highest court decided in 2020 that the Muslim Brotherhood should be dissolved, but the organization has been able to continue operating in the country, among other things through its political branch.
