The goal of the plans was to cause chaos and sabotage within the country, reports the state news agency Petra on Tuesday.

The arrests were made since the intelligence service has been monitoring the individuals since 2021.

The individuals are, among other things, suspected of having manufactured rockets, possessed explosives and firearms, and planned to build drones. The group is also said to have trained accomplices in Jordan and abroad.

According to the Jordanian authorities, the suspects have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. The organization was dissolved in the country by court in 2020.

Jordan is a relatively stable and prosperous country compared to many other countries in the region. But in recent years, several arrests have been made with reference to national security. For example, an attempt to smuggle weapons to a militia group in the country was stopped last May.
