53-year-old Falk is convicted of four counts of particularly serious drug offenses in a case involving 2.3 tonnes of cocaine.
The Stockholm District Court ruled that he planned and organised three shipments of cocaine from South America to Europe across the Atlantic. The crimes were committed between 2020 and 2021 in international waters and, among other places, in Spain, Colombia and Costa Rica.
He is also convicted of having cocaine manufactured in Colombia, but that deal was never completed as the cocaine could not be delivered.
“Large-scale drug trafficking”
The evidence has largely been based on text and images in chat messages via encrypted messaging services.
"The content of the messages shows that the man took an active part in the planning and implementation of all four charges and that the activities were organised to conduct large-scale drug trafficking," says the court's chairman, Göran Lundahl, in a press release.
Jonas Falk is already serving a prison sentence. Last year, he was sentenced to four years and ten months in prison for his involvement in an extortion racket against financier Joachim Kuylenstierna.
The court takes the previous sentence into account, and Falk will serve a total of 14 years in prison, which is the maximum sentence for several cases of particularly serious drug offenses.
Acquitted in the "Playa" case
Jonas Falk was arrested in August 2024 in Spain, where he has lived since 2007. He was extradited to Sweden in October of the same year.
During the trial, Falk refused to either deny or admit the crimes he was charged with and said he believed he should have been tried in Spain instead.
According to his lawyer Max Ahlgren, Falk believes that the Swedish justice system has had a thorn in his side since he was acquitted in the high-profile "Playa" case in 2010, which also involved extensive drug crimes.
Jonas's view is that this defeat for prosecutors and police has influenced the prosecutor's decision to transfer these suspicions from Spain to Sweden, the defense attorney told TT during the trial.

Jonas Falk has also previously been convicted of several bank robberies, among other things.
In 2010, he was also identified as the main suspect in one of Sweden's largest drug cases. The case, which came to be known as "Operation Playa", ended in an acquittal for Jonas Falk in the Court of Appeal. For the 3.5 years he was forced to spend in custody, he was awarded damages of 3.6 million kronor.
