Jon Dahl Tomasson Addresses Gyökeres Speculation Amid Injury Concerns

Jon Dahl Tomasson dismisses the speculations surrounding the forward Viktor Gyökeres. The forward's decision to leave the national team squad has nothing to do with a potential upcoming club transfer. No. He felt a small injury that our medical team has been keeping an eye on, says the national team captain.

Gyökeres was the last of Sweden's three major international stars to withdraw from the upcoming national team matches, against Hungary in Budapest on Friday and against Algeria on Tuesday.

Dejan Kulusevski was never an option for the matches. He was operated on a few weeks ago. During Wednesday's training session at Bosön, he appeared on crutches.

Talked to Källström

Kulusevski was seen in conversation with football manager Kim Källström and Peter Wettergren, technical director of the football association.

Alexander Isak reported problems with his groin and withdrew after the squad was announced. And on Tuesday, Gyökeres checked out of the squad.

But his decision not to participate in the national team matches has nothing to do with the transfer circus that is going on around him. At least according to Jon Dahl Tomasson.

I talked to Viktor last week. He has not trained much in recent weeks and has been struggling with a minor injury. I was happy to just see him and have him involved in our meetings. It says a lot about Viktor, how much he wants to be involved, says Dahl Tomasson.

Uncertain with replacement

As Gustaf Nilsson, called up as a replacement for Isak, also left the squad, the national team is left with fewer and fewer offensive options. In addition, Anthony Elanga has been given leave from the meeting with Algeria at Strawberry arena.

In a perfect world, we have all players available. We miss many, but those who are here do it well, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.

After the withdrawals, the winger Momodou Sonko, Gent, has been called up from the U21 national team gathering.
