There is a defensive crisis at Manchester City. Joško Gvardiol has suffered a broken leg and will need surgery, and Rúben Dias will be out for some time with a thigh injury.

Both Croatian Joško Gvardiol and Portuguese Rúben Dias were injured in Sunday's match against Chelsea (1–1).

It is now clear that Gvardiol will need surgery for a fractured right tibia. It is unclear how long he is expected to be out.

Dias will be out for up to six weeks with a strain to the back of his thigh.

It's probably not just Manchester City who are worried about the injuries. The Croatian national team, who are playing in the World Cup this summer, are probably anxiously awaiting the operation and the timetable for Gvardiol's return to play.
