John Lithgow is to play Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost is to play Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu is to play Severus Snape and Janet McTeer is to play Minerva McGonagall, according to a press release from Warner Bros.
In guest and recurring roles, others include Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
Who will play Harry Potter and his friends is still unknown. The series will be broadcast on Max.
Author J K Rowling is still involved in the project and has been part of the discussions regarding screenwriters and directors. "Succession" screenwriter Francesca Gardner will be the head writer of the Harry Potter series and "Succession" director Mark Mylod has signed on to direct several episodes.
