French superstar Léon Marchand, a four-time gold medallist at the 2024 Olympics, won the first individual European Championship gold of his career when he took the 200 metre butterfly.
Marchand was completely superior and won by more than two seconds in 1:51.72. A packed Paris Arena nearly boiled over with joy.
Marchand has been struggling with injury problems and has had to battle in both breaststroke and medley. The butterfly was his first individual event of the European Championships.
