In June, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd signed for French giants Lyon. The winger was looking forward to playing in France, but it will have to wait a while.

On Saturday, Lyon announced that Rytting Kaneryd had injured her anterior cruciate ligament during training and will be out for some time to come.

"The hardest thing right now is accepting that I won't be able to do what I love most for a while. I know what awaits me now," the 29-year-old star writes on Instagram.

This is the third time in her career that Johanna Rytting Kaneryd has suffered a cruciate ligament injury. There is a risk that she will not be ready to play in time for the World Cup in Brazil in June 2027 - if Sweden qualifies for the championship.

"I was so excited to start this new chapter. The fact that it won't happen now is incredibly difficult to accept."

If Sweden wins the first doubles match, which will be played in mid-October against Lithuania, another playoff awaits at the turn of November/December. In that case, the winner between the Czech Republic and Scotland awaits there.
