Sixtensson was a successful head coach for Villa Lidköping for ten years before leaving in 2024. Now the 50-year-old is returning to the fold.

"It's one thing to work with a team that you meet seven days a week, pretty much all year round. Here you meet maybe three or four times a year, when you gather the players. But there's a lot of contact out in the stadiums, by phone and in other ways. I was curious about how I would handle that type of leadership," he says after accepting the national team captain's job.

Sweden won the World Cup at the beginning of the year, and it will no longer be played every year. Sweden currently has no international matches scheduled for the upcoming season.

"I think it's right that we don't play the World Cup every year. It will cause a bit of inflation and then some of the excitement around the championship will disappear. Especially since Russia isn't in it right now either," says Sixtensson.
