”We have had several thought-provoking conversations with Jimmy over the past few days, and after these conversations, we came to the decision to let the series return on Tuesday”, writes Disney in a statement.
It was last week that Disney-owned ABC announced that they are pausing the long-running “Jimmy Kimmel live” after the host Jimmy Kimmel in his opening monologue commented on the suspected murderer of right-wing profile Charlie Kirk.
”We made the decision to interrupt the production of the series to avoid further fueling a tense situation at a sensitive time for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt that some of the comments were ill-timed and therefore insensitive”.
The message pleased President Donald Trump, who on social media called it ”good news for the USA”. But the suspension has also been criticized by liberal voices in the USA, who mean that the TV companies are laying down for the Trump administration and that Kimmel has become a target because he has often criticized the president.
Jimmy Kimmel has also received massive support from colleagues in the industry, such as Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Colbert, who called the suspension an attack on freedom of speech.
This is obvious censorship, said Colbert in the opening monologue of his talk show on CBS.
