The television company ABC, which is owned by Disney, agreed with Kimmel on the contract extension several months ago, but postponed announcing it out of consideration for colleague Stephen Colbert, who was fired from CBS earlier this year, according to information provided to Bloomberg.
In September, Jimmy Kimmel was criticized by Donald Trump after commenting on the death of right-wing debater Charlie Kirk, and Kimmel was briefly suspended from ABC. The decision was praised by President Donald Trump, but met with massive criticism, not least from Hollywood.
According to Bloomberg, Kimmel announced the extension for his staff on Monday. Kimmel's new contract runs until May 2027.
