It is not every competition you succeed with it. It was very stable, says the 29-year-old after the round that contained six birdies and twelve par.

He otherwise had no good feeling before the competition.

Sometimes it is quite nice. You have no expectations of performing anything good really, says Svensson after his 66 strokes.

Svensson shares the lead with Thorbjørn Olesen, Denmark, and the Americans Austin Cook and David Lipsky. Cook has five holes left to play because the first round was interrupted due to darkness.

Swedish veteran Alex Norén is the competition's highest ranked player (17th in the world ranking) and is tied twelfth on –4.
