Already eliminated, New Jersey, after some drama last night, put an end to Detroit's hunt for a wildcard spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Detroit trailed three times - visiting New Jersey equalized each time. With the score tied at 3–3 late in the game, Jesper Bratt scored the go-ahead goal to make it 4–3, and later added an empty-net goal to make it 5–3 - effectively ending Detroit's bid.
Bratt finished with two goals and an assist in the match.
Detroit's Swedish star Lucas Raymond recorded an assist.
There are two games left in the regular season for Detroit, who have now missed the playoffs for ten consecutive seasons.
