Vancouver Swede Linus Karlsson scored the first goal of the game - and the Canadian team’s only goal - on the power play just over five minutes into the first period. About 11 minutes later, Jesper Boqvist scored with a wrist shot for New Jersey, giving his team a 2–1 lead.
Taking the lead just before the break was good, but I think we did a lot of good things in the first period, so I think we deserved it, Boqvist told nhl.com.
Jesper Bratt’s points came in the second period. First, he scored on the power play with a wrist shot, and later he set up Swiss teammate Nico Hischier, who made it 4–1 for New Jersey. The third period was scoreless.
The 27-year-old Hischier had a good game, scoring two goals and an assist to pass the milestone of 200 goals in his NHL career.
The match marked Vancouver’s third straight loss.
