In a camera shot from the live broadcast at the television station in Malmö, the now notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein suddenly appears in the Melodifestivalen audience, just before Pernilla Wahlgren's performance of "Piccadilly Circus".
Sitting next to him were, among others, Robert Wells and Bert Karlsson.
The unexpected discovery was made by journalist Max V Karlsson on X (then Twitter) several years ago.
The explanation is that, at the time, Epstein had a relationship with a Swedish woman who worked in production.
SVT has spoken to Bert Karlsson, who has no memory of the American.
"Now I'm involved here too," says Karlsson, laughing.
