Sunday was the last chance for visitors to the Tokyo Zoo to meet the twin pandas. Visits were limited to one minute per visitor due to overwhelming interest.
The two pandas, born and raised in Japan, will now be moved to China, and for the first time in 50 years, Japan will be without any pandas. Historically, China has used so-called panda diplomacy, where other countries have been given giant pandas.
Recently, relations between China and Japan have grown increasingly frosty, partly because of differing views on Taiwan.
