Japan Raids Four Largest Beer Makers Over Suspected Price-Fixing Cartel

Japanese authorities have raided the country’s four largest beer manufacturers on suspicion of forming a cartel.

Together, the four beer giants Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo and Suntory account for around 90 percent of Japan’s beer market and are suspected of jointly driving up beer prices.

According to a source, company representatives have met regularly to discuss prices and the timing of increases.

All four companies confirm they are being investigated by Japan’s competition authority.
