MFF had a tough time last year - the team finished sixth and was 26 points behind title winners Mjällby - and had a tough start to this season.

The away match with newcomer Örgryte only yielded one point.

In the home opener against Gais, things went better.

And in some ways, easier.

We started really well. The best start we've had in years, it feels like. We're pushing them down, doing what we say, gaining momentum, getting everyone in here and then 3-0... A perfect start, Pontus Jansson said to TV4.

The centre-back himself made it 1–0 with a distinctive and technically well-executed header after 20 minutes.

"The amount of set pieces we practice every week must pay off," he says.

"It was a good pass by Jens (Stryger), so I just had to put my head on it."

Oscar Sjöstrand was given a 2–0 lead by Gais goalkeeper Kees Sims. The 23-year-old Australian hit the ball straight at the MFF player and Sjöstrand headed and rolled the ball between the legs of the hapless goalkeeper. Before the first half was over, MFF had a 3–0 lead after Otto Rosengren's goal.

The first three points of the season were secured in the opening round. In the next round, MFF travel to Djurgården on April 17.

Gais, who were missing the injured Gustav Lundgren and Kevin Holmén, have started the season with two straight losses. Shalom Ekong scored the equalizer in the 87th minute.
